Irish singer, composer, and producer, born on May 17, 1961, in Gweedore, County Donegal, Ireland. Raised in a musical family, her father Leo Brennan led a showband, and her mother Máire "Baba" Brennan was a music teacher. In 1980, she joined her family's band Clannad but embarked on a solo career in 1982, collaborating with producer Nicky Ryan and lyricist Roma Ryan. Her music blends elements of Celtic, classical, ambient, and world music, creating a distinctive layered sound. Her debut album "Enya" was released in 1987, and the breakthrough "Watermark" (1988) brought international fame with the hit "Orinoco Flow." The album "A Day Without Rain" (2000) became her best-selling work, with the song "Only Time" gaining significant popularity following the events of September 11, 2001. Enya has received four Grammy Awards in the New Age category and numerous other accolades, including World Music Awards. Her album "Dark Sky Island" (2015) was inspired by Roma Ryan's poetry and received positive critical reception. Despite global fame, Enya is known for her reclusiveness, residing in Manderley Castle in Killiney, Ireland, and avoiding public performances and tours. Her music continues to inspire artists across various genres, from pop to metal.
