Gotye

Belgian-Australian singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, born on May 21, 1980, in Bruges, Belgium. At the age of two, he moved with his family to Australia, growing up in Melbourne. From an early age, he showed an interest in music, learning to play drums, keyboards, and guitar. In the early 2000s, he began creating music using samples and electronic elements. In 2001, he released his debut album "Boardface," followed by "Like Drawing Blood" in 2006, which received critical acclaim and commercial success in Australia. He gained international fame with his third album "Making Mirrors" (2011), particularly the single "Somebody That I Used to Know," featuring Kimbra, which topped charts in over 20 countries and became one of the best-selling singles of 2012. The song earned him three Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year. In addition to his solo career, he co-founded the indie-pop band The Basics, releasing several albums. Following the success of "Somebody That I Used to Know," Gotye stepped back from commercial music, focusing on preserving the legacy of the electronic instrument ondioline and the works of Jean-Jacques Perrey. In 2017, he released the album "Jean-Jacques Perrey et son Ondioline," dedicated to this instrument. He is known for refusing to monetize his hit on YouTube, preferring to maintain artistic integrity. In 2024, he released his first single in 11 years, continuing to experiment with musical styles and instruments.
