Mortal Kombat

The 1995 American martial arts fantasy film directed by Paul Anderson is based on the popular video game series Mortal Kombat. The plot centers around three main characters: Liu Kang (Robin Shou), a Shaolin monk seeking to avenge his brother's death; Johnny Cage (Linden Ashby), a Hollywood action star aiming to prove his genuine fighting skills; and Sonya Blade (Bridgette Wilson), a Special Forces lieutenant pursuing the criminal Kano (Trevor Goddard). They are invited to a tournament called "Mortal Kombat," held on a mysterious island, where they face warriors from the Outworld, including the powerful sorcerer Shang Tsung (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) and his minions, such as Sub-Zero (François Petit) and Scorpion (Chris Casamassa). The tournament determines the fate of Earthrealm: if the Outworld warriors win for the tenth consecutive time, their emperor will conquer Earth. Under the guidance of the thunder god and Earthrealm's protector, Raiden (Christopher Lambert), the heroes undergo trials, battles, and personal conflicts to prevent their world's takeover.
