Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope

A 1977 science fiction film directed by George Lucas, the first installment of the original Star Wars trilogy. The galaxy is under the rule of the Galactic Empire, while the Rebel Alliance fights against it. Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) obtains the plans for the Death Star but is captured by Darth Vader (David Prowse, voiced by James Earl Jones). Droids C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) and R2-D2 (Kenny Baker) escape and land on Tatooine, where they meet young farm boy Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). Luke learns about his destiny from former Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) and joins him, along with smuggler Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and his co-pilot Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew), to rescue Leia. They infiltrate the Death Star, where Obi-Wan faces Darth Vader and is killed, allowing the others to escape. The Rebels launch an attack on the station, and with the help of the Force, Luke destroys the Death Star with support from Han. The victory strengthens the Rebel Alliance, but the Empire prepares to strike back.
