The Thirteenth Floor

The 1999 American science fiction film directed by Josef Rusnak is an adaptation of Daniel F. Galouye's novel "Simulacron-3." Set in 1999 Los Angeles, the story follows Hannon Fuller (Armin Mueller-Stahl), owner of a multibillion-dollar computer company, who creates a virtual reality simulating 1937 Los Angeles, populated by AI characters unaware of their nature. After Fuller's murder, his protégé, Douglas Hall (Craig Bierko), becomes the prime suspect and initiates his own investigation. Delving into the virtual world, Hall discovers that his own reality may also be a simulation. He encounters Jane Fuller (Gretchen Mol), posing as Fuller's daughter, and learns about the existence of multiple levels of virtual worlds.
