A 2000 American fantasy comedy-drama directed by Jon Turteltaub. The film tells the story of Russell "Rusty" Duritz (Bruce Willis), a 40-year-old successful yet cynical image consultant from Los Angeles, who one day encounters an eight-year-old version of himself—a boy named Rusty (Spencer Breslin). Rusty is disappointed with what he becomes in the future, as in childhood he dreamed of becoming a pilot and having a dog named Chester, but adult Russ abandoned these dreams. Through their shared adventures, adult Russ begins to reassess his life priorities and recall forgotten childhood aspirations. The film also stars Emily Mortimer as Amy, Russell's assistant; Lily Tomlin as Janet, his secretary; Chi McBride as Kenny, a friend and colleague; and Jean Smart as Deidre Lefever, one of Russell's clients. The film explores themes of self-discovery, second chances, and the importance of retaining childhood dreams into adulthood. "Disney's The Kid" received mixed reviews from critics but grossed over $110 million against a $65 million budget.
