An Irish rock band formed in 1976 in Dublin, Ireland, by Larry Mullen Jr. (drums), Bono (vocals), Adam Clayton (bass guitar), and The Edge (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), U2 has become one of the most influential and successful bands in rock history. Their musical style, initially rooted in post-punk, has evolved while maintaining an anthemic sound characterized by Bono's expressive vocals and The Edge's signature guitar work. The band has released 15 studio albums, including iconic works like "The Joshua Tree" (1987), which earned them their first Grammy Award for Album of the Year, and "Achtung Baby" (1991), marking a shift towards a more experimental sound. U2 is renowned for their large-scale concert tours, such as Zoo TV and PopMart, as well as innovative projects like the "U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere" residency in Las Vegas during 2023–2024, which attracted over 663,000 attendees and grossed $244.5 million. The band has won 22 Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year for both "The Joshua Tree" and "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb," and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. Despite Larry Mullen Jr.'s temporary absence in 2023 due to surgery, U2 continues to perform and record music actively, remaining relevant and influential over the decades.
